Thing of Beauty Number 07-101

I'm back to letting the mystery be again.
It's all part of allowing things to unfold in their own time.
I still think it's important to Witness - like the folks around the Gulf of Mexico will be witnessing this week on the anniversary of the Deepwater Disaster.

Every now and then, we get an accurate glimpse at of just exactly how fucked up things are in America - or any place else in the world, for that matter.   All you have to do is look at the hateful comments left on websites and facebook to see that not only is the general situation fucked up but the hateful people are multiplying.

It must have been much the same back when Copernicus was trying to tell people that the Earth was not the center of the universe.  Or during the Crusades or the Spanish Inquisition or during the McCarthy era or World War II or the slave trade. There are plenty of examples of Fucked Up eras in Human History.

Today, I have once again reached the conclusion that we're witnessing the fall of the American empire, and it's a good thing. Collectively, we suck. There are many, many beautiful individuals, but collectively, we suck.

I'm working on Fracking today for Worldwide Hippies News & Stuff. It provides yet another example of Dominionist Bullshit perpetrated by conservatives who believe that when God said men has Dominion over the planet, God meant rich white guys owned everyone and everything except other rich white guys.

I maintain that the troubles we have today are a direct result of the troubles caused during the Constitutional Convention by those dicks who wouldn't sign unless Slavery was protected. John Boehner and them are the political descendants of the Slave Owners.

Again, though, slave trader John Newton eventually had a change of heart great enough to write Amazing Grace which shows that individuals will change even when institutions will not. And when individuals change, everything around them changes little by little. It just takes ten thousand years.

Sometimes all we can do is try to meet situations with clarity and witness those things we can't change. The Gulf disaster continues, nuclear meltdown continues, wars new and old continue. Closure is an illusion when everything is a process.

Tricia, it is odd that you should share these thoughts today because I was thinking only yesterday about much of this.

I do take issue with one insight of yours, however. I have come to the conclusion that we are in one of the ten thousand year cycles all right, but backwardly...at the speed of fucking light. Which reduces the cycle to approximatly oh, ten years...give or take a fool or two.

Human history is just the story of one long fuck up, isn't it? Same old, same old.

Amazing Gilligan is a hoot!

My comment yesterday, and my agreement with you today, was from the heart.

However, I doubt the country, or the world, is going anywhere. Nope, America will still be here. It is Us, the inhabitants, who will suffer. The world will survive.

I've just spent he last three nights hanging with musicians playing folk, bluegrass, Celtic, including tunes by... Iris Dement.

Remember the old song, (sp?) Que Sara, Sara... whatever will be will be...

That's the history of humankind. Music may not save the world but it sure saves me.

Dang! I just sang Que Serra Serra to somebody the other night. I hear you on that one, Mr. C

Susan, I'm in the process of learning how everything is an illusion. With luck, I'll develop more peace of mind.

Jaded - might as well drink some wine, then.

Debra and Gail, I first heard Amazing Gilligan at the Hippy Dippy Quaker Camp with Velvet. It's now my ringtone.

mac, I'm pretty sure I'll survive too and be fixing Cockroach Stew for everybody for dinner ;) Sheesh.

ps @JadedJ - Since Civilization as we know it started roughly 10,000 years ago with the introduction of agriculture, could be that our 10,000 years are UP

Or at least The Patriarchy's 10,000 years might be up. Once civilization collapses in 2012, we're supposed to transition to The Matriarchy.

We watched Inside Job this weekend. It's hard to have much hope after that, but I do, even if it's foolish.

I love reading history because it gives me a sense of how slowly things change for better or worse.

IQ is measured on a bell curve with 100 set as the arbitrary norm. At this time people on the back side of the bell curve are breading faster than people on the high side - which is skewing the average intelligence of the entire population downward. Ref: Tea party and Fox News are the new norms.

Sorry about that. it's early in the a.m. and it has been a long day. People are breeding not breading.

Ol' Buzzard, too bad they're not breading - I love bread.

Susan, I may not be hopeful about politicians and the government, but I have faith in Life, The Universe and Everything. Look beyond the politics and the public, and presto! Beauty. What's not to love?

As a collective we as an American people or citizens of an industristalized civilization do suck. But I do have faith in those tiny collectives of people who seek beauty and an egalitarian way of interaction based in each individuals equality and autonomy. When all this crashes in heaps around our feet it is in those tiny collectives from which we may begin to rebuild a society of correct proportion in relation to the natural order and in a correct understanding of love and beauty.

well, frankly, what has worked for me a bit.... is just don't fold things up so tight in the first place. Maybe that sounds dumb.... but I just quit doing that. folding things.... well it works for laundry.... but trying to get a thought down in your head, wrinkle free, seems like too much effort. I seem to like wrinkling thoughts, and uncombed ones, and what is the point of making your bed when you are just going to crawl back in..

ok.... just me, and just saying, is all.

goatman - If it's one thing I can't tolerate, it's Dullsville.

Nicholas, that's exactly why I continue to enjoy the idea of creating a hippie haven. In Vermont or somewhere equally as liberal, with a sun porch, a wine cellar, weed growing in the garden and microbrew on tap. Headquarters for this tiny collective. Welcome!

okjimm, for the record: I only make my bed when company is coming over for that very reason, and I absolutely refuse to iron. Overall, I enjoy the wrinkles and it's softer.
