Resistance and Playing with Redemption

Now that the mystery of my shoulder is well on its way to being solved - at least until the next round of tests - and one of my dear friends has recommended an excellent real estate agent who can expedite the search for Menopausal Stoners Temporary Headquarters in the 'Hood, I'm working on the Revolution again.

I'm still having fun with Worldwide Hippies and spread the love this week with a story about 108 Productions' new documentary Corpus Christi: Playing with Redemption (I'm at 3:00 on WWH News & Stuff).

108 Productions has been taking Terrence McNally's play, Corpus Christi, around this country and over to Europe for some years now and are sharing that experience. It's kind of about what happens when the Religious Right meets the Gay Jesus. I love these guys.  Find them on Facebook at Corpus Christi Playing with Redemption.

The comments under the trailer got me thinking about how love is generally missing from public discourse these days - now that half the working class is determined to kill off the other, which is exactly what Jay Gould said he could manage back in the Robber Baron days.

Nice post. Reminds me of how much I hate war=mongers and intolerant people. I think we should round up all war mongers and the hate spreaders and such, line 'em up against a wall and shoot them? But that's just me.

I have to wonder how weak these people must think their god if they have to defend him against teh gays.

Interesting, I'd never heard of that play before. Yeah, I know, I must have been living under a rock. I also enjoyed the WWH news. It's a nice change of pace.

Yep - too much anger and polarizing going on these days. The worst thing is, it's politicians - those people WE HIRE to take care of things - that are creating the climate. It's the old divide and conquer strategy. I think your president had notions of bringing people back together again when he was first hired, but it seems as if the cat's out of the bag.

Nothing good can come of it as far as I can see.

Something's going on Trish, and I like it. You're the third or fourth blogger in the past couple of days who has made note of the absence of love in our dialog. It's obviously time for a comeback. Could it be the approaching Solstice?

BTW, love 108 Productions.

okjimm, I can appreciate the firing squad method even though it's a little messy.

mac, excellent point.

V.V. - I only hear about plays because my friend Kathleen, who is uber-involved in off-off broadway and gay theatre, brings certain ones to my attention. A couple of years ago, 108 productions was in NYC to perform the play as a benefit for the Matthew Shepard Foundation, and we had a cast party at my apartment. Great people.

Jennifer - I really wish we could have drinks sometime.

Mr. C, could be the solstice but I like the idea of a massive consciousness shift in 2012 which marks the end of the patriarchy. That would be good for everyone - even Patriarchs ;)

I'm glad to hear things are looking up with the shoulder.

I love the idea of a gay Jesus.

I think love really is the answer. I just love, Love. It's comforting, thrilling, warm, wonderful and sometimes scary. There is nothing better, also nothing worse than when it's taken away.

One of the things all the hateful tea baggers and right-wing religious zealots eternally forget is the commandment of their supposed Lord and Savior to "love thy neighbor." All they can see is forcing people to live their way. Not the way they actually live, mind you, but the way they preach that people should live. Worse, they will stop at nothing to get their way, up to and including civil war.

In the words of our Profits, John, Paul, George and Ringo:

Nothing you can make that can't be made.
No one you can save that can't be saved.
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time.
It's easy.

All you need is love.
All you need is love.
All you need is love, love.
Love is all you need.

Much love to you and Velvet and all our kindred hippy spirits.
